Fjällräven's New Samlaren Collection Gives New Life to Surplus Fabrics to Promote Sustainable Practices

Fjällräven, well-known for its manufacturing of high-quality outdoor clothing and equipment, has designed a unique and individually numbered collection called Samlaren, which is made completely of surplus fabrics.

The Samlaren collection has its roots in the values important to Fjällräven: superior quality and the minimization of leftover raw materials.

The playfully colorful collection will be sold in Finland only via Fjällräven’s online store and the Partioaitta store in Yrjönkatu, Helsinki. The very limited and individually numbered products can be found throughout the world in quantities between a few dozen and just over a couple thousand, depending on the model.

The first release of the new collection will consist of a series of reimagined classics that have been made entirely from the surplus G-1000 fabric left over from other Fjällräven collections. The Samlaren collection includes the Greenland Jacket -jacket with fun patchwork pattern, Kånken backpack, and Kånken Totepack -shoulder bag and cap.

The Samlaren collection is designed entirely based on the conditions set by the surplus materials. As is the case with every single Fjällräven collection, special attention was paid on versatility, durability and the timelessness of products in the Samlaren as well.

“The fabrics and colors were calculated carefully, as we wanted to utilize the raw materials as effectively as possible. Typically the design process happens in just an opposite way, first the collection is designed and only then the raw materials are produced for the collection,” explains Fjällräven's Director of Sustainability, Christiane Dolva Törnberg.

Long-lasting collections respecting nature

Responsibility and respect for the environment have already been at the heart of Fjällräven's operations for decades. At every single stage of the production process, attention is paid on sustainable development: the aim is to make their carbon footprint as small as possible and to minimize the amount of waste generated from production.

“In the future, sustainable development will play an even greater role, and the demand for durability and longevity of clothes increases. Hopefully we will see even more sustainable products and practices in the future designed to have a minimal impact on the environment," Törnberg states.

Starting on March 1st, the Samlaren collection will be on sale in the Fjällräven online store and in the Yrjönkatu Partioaitta in Helsinki. The hats and bags will also available from selected Partioaitta stores around Finland.
