The Lidl x Makia Collaboration Lets You to Stunt With Your Dog in Matching Outfits

paid partnership with Lidl Suomi

Lidl and Makia are dropping a banging collaboration this Thursday 17.6.2021 - a collab that will feature a hoodie and a dog blanket.

The idea behind the collaboration is to support the sport hobbies of young people from low-income families, as well as Finnish sports as a whole. For every Lidl x Makia product purchased, Lidl donates a percentage of profits to charity - The Finkey Foundation that supports hockey as a hobby for children and young people. Hockey is a big sport in Finland and it can be very expensive for many families. The Finnish Hockey Association is behind the Finkey Foundation.

The hoodie will be sold for 49,99€ while the dog blanket will be sold for 14,99€ for a single item and 3 items for 29,98€. Both products will be sold directly from Lidl stores around Finland - so visit your local Lidl store starting from 17.6. to purchase yours!

The idea for hoodie originated from the desire to playfully bring together three things: Lidl, Makia and sports.

First of all, there has been a willingness to playfully represent both Lidl and Makia. The backstory, if you will, of the collaboration is that Makia is the sponsor of sports team Lidl. That's why the hoodie has the letter combination LACF, or Lidl Atlético Club Finland, to represent Lidl's own imaginary sports team. Atlético is actually a Spanish word that means sporty. That is, the hoodie wearers are part of Lidl’s own sports team. Lidl Atlético can be thought of as referring to football if it wants to, but mainly here is an imaginary Lidl team that is independent of any sport.

Makia's logo, on the other hand, was created to represent a Supercorporation from Helsinki. That’s why a reference to the crown of the City of Helsinki was chosen to be included, since Makia hails from the marinas of Helsinki. In this way, both Lidl and Makia were coined together through the common denominator of sports.

The reference about the Finnish lion is suitable for this hoodie, as it is intended to inspire the Finnish football team Huuhkajat to win in The UEFA European Football Championship. The Finnish lion belongs to all Finns.

It doesn’t matter which team, players, or sports events you are a fan of, by buying the Lidl x Makia hoodie you are supporting the Finnish sportsmanship, ie Lidl Atlético Club. The campaign and collaboration is open for everyone to join. The aim, of course, is to inspire people to do all kinds of sports this summer, but at the same time, provide an opportunity to support children's and young people's sports activities with a hoodie designed by Makia for Lidl.

About the manufacturing process:

Both the hoodie and the dog blanket are only ordered in a small, limited batch. Makia's products now sold at Lidl are made in Turkey. The partners for these products have been carefully selected. The products are made in Turkish garment factories, which can be found on Makia's website. There are a total of more than 50,000 companies in the textile and clothing sector in Turkey. In 2020, Turkey was the third most important import country for both Finland and the European Union. Turkey is no longer a low-cost country compared to many Asian countries.

Makia produces their clothes in Turkey, so that they can uphold the greatest standards. If you have any more questions about the manufacturing process, you can always contact Makia. Moreover, the products are made of GOTS-certified organic cotton. Turkey is the world's 7th largest producer of cotton (2019-20) with 751,000 tons. Turkish cotton is generally considered to be of high quality and Turkey has also been the world’s leading producer of organic cotton.
