Film Diaries 013: Exploring in Mexico

I’m Nita from Helsinki, Finland and I’m an all-around human, working on anything creative. I mainly produce videos and DJ, and I like to take photos - mostly of people. :) These snapshots are from Mexico (Oaxaca & CDMX) in 2021 & 2022 - shot with my dear Olympus MJU ii that I like to carry around with me. Spending time in Mexico has played a big role in my life for some years now. I first ended up in Puerto Escondido in 2019 when I had a 6-month study break from my video producer job at Veli after working there for some years. I ended up googling “nice place to surf in Mexico” and Puerto came up and I went there by myself. It helped that I speak Spanish and I quickly adapted to the laid-back lifestyle.

I never graduated (what was the purpose of the study leave) but I ended up opening a little surf shop with my Mexican friends Carlos and Diego (r.i.p. Ola Shop). I fell in love with both the place and a surfer dude, lol. That didn’t last but the love for the place did and I’ve been going back every year since. The place itself has grown a lot in the past few years and because of the pretty much “non-existing” pandemic, a lot of people have traveled there. I give a big recommendation to go there and remember to support local businesses <3. The locals are super helpful and happy to give tips.

My dear friends Rebekka and Emilia joined me this time pretty extempore when I had been in Puerto for some weeks and ohhhh man we enjoyed life and just everything.  A lot of time on the beach, surfing, eating, dancing and relaxing. And for the first time properly exploring Mexico City - what a beauty.

Also got to play some DJ gigs in my dear friend Bronte’s skate bowl “The Boneyard” and also in an amazing party called “Sunday Sunday” in Mexico City. And a funny story, a guy called Rasta did an emergency landing in a bush behind us on an empty beach - that’s how we met. It was a whole process to get his parachute out of the ocean and the emergency parachute out of the bush with a machete. What a fun way to meet!

<3 BLESS, Nita
